Residents of Del Mar are fiercely loyal and committed to preserving the refined atmosphere and exceptional quality of life which is evident in Del Mar’s immaculate community parks and city landscaping.

The schools are among the best in the nation. Ever popular as a small resort, Del Mar provides the best in coastal living at the northern gateway to San Diego. Del Mar Plaza with ocean view restaurants and upscale shopping provides endless fun for those who visit and everyday enjoyment for those who live with in Del Mar.

A commuter rail service runs in both directions along the coast giving residents the choice of using a station a mile or two to the north or south. Del Mar’s location also provides easy access to I-5.

Del Mar is just as popular during the off-season. Near perfect weather year-round attracts a steady stream of repeat visitors and “snowbirds” who come to town to enjoy miles of coastline, two and a half miles of beautiful beaches and the famous Torrey Pines State Reserve, located within San Diego city limits and yet
one of the wildest stretches of land on our Southern California coast!

Because of the efforts and foresight of the people in this area, 2000 acres of land are as they were before San Diego was developed -with the chaparral plant community. Here the rare and elegant Torrey Pine trees, miles of unspoiled beaches, and a lagoon that is vital to migrating seabirds have been conserved for future generations to experience.

There are 8 miles of trails, a visitor center, and guided nature walks on weekends and holidays. In the spring the trails are blooming with numerous species of colorful wildflowers. Torrey Pines is visited by travelers from all over the world as well as by local residents, who come daily to rest at the stunning overlooks, enjoy the peaceful trails, or exercise in its beautiful outdoor environment.

The southern half of Del Mar rises up from the bluffs above the surf and into the hills. Winding streets follow the landscape affording access to the view homes nestled on the slopes.  An abundance of mature trees lends a woodsy feel, although its just minutes to the surf and sand.

The northern half of the town  “The beach colony”  is completely different…

…. it’s flat with short streets ending on the sand and mainly well cared for beach homes.

The ocean in the foreground, racetrack behind, dog beach to the right, Del Mar City to the right of that. Quite literally “Where the turf meets the surf”.

Powerhouse Park.

Centrally located on Del Mar’s beautiful coastline, the Powerhouse Building is a well-known landmark that has played interesting roles in the community during its lifetime.   The preservation of the Powerhouse building and its transformation into a multi-purpose community asset has long been a goal for the City of Del Mar.
It can be rented for family parties, weddings and other events.
